The Geothermal Capital of the Philippines is home to the biggest renewable energy reserve in the country. The third largest geothermal energy reserve in the world, next to the United State of America and Indonesia.
Energy Development Corporation (biggest taxpayer and employer) owns and operates the Tongonan geothermal fields located both in the town of Kananga and city of Ormoc.
It operates the renowned KEITECH Educational Foundation that offers world class tech - vocational education for free.
It is also home to HIDECO Sugar Milling Company or HISUMCO which is the only sugar refinery in region 8.
Its tourism slogan is "ONWARDS AND UPWARDS KANANGA" which aims to make the town a city in the near future.
Recently, it has begun constructing its new Municipal Hall located at Brgy Libongao interchange.
